John 14:26 need to link to John 20:22
Father send Spirit in Son's name is fulfilled in the night of resurrection. The breath came out of the resurrected Jesus is the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit is the breath of the Son. You can't separate your breath from yourself. So 1 Cor 15:45 says the last Adam became the life giving Spirit.
John 16:13 continues to say Spirit will receive from the Son, and listen to the Son.
John 16:13 But when He, the Spirit of reality, comes, He will guide you into all the reality; for He will not speak from Himself, but what He hears He will speak; and He will declare to you the things that are coming. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will receive of Mine and will declare it to you.15 All that the Father has is Mine; for this reason I have said that He receives of Mine and will declare it to you
Apparently the breath is another person otherwise how can a 'thing(breath)' listen?
Father gives everything to the Son (16:15), then Son gives to the Spirit, the Spirit gives to us. So 1 Cor 2:13 says the Spirit teaches us(same as John 14:26). And 2:14 says we have to receive by the spirit(human spirit, see footnote below)
1 Cor 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in words taught by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual things with spiritual words.
2:14 But a soulish man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him and he is not able to know them because they are discerned spiritually(footnote 6).
Footnote 6: Spiritually here refers to the spirit of man that is moved by the Spirit of God to fully exercise its function and thereby replace the human soul's rule and control over man. It is only by such a spirit that man can discern the things of the Spirit of God. A man who is ruled and controlled by his spirit is a spiritual man, as mentioned in the next verse. Since God is Spirit, all the things of the Spirit of God are spiritual. Therefore, to discern, to know, the things of the Spirit of God, man must use the human spirit (John 4:24).
So we have to hear from the Spirit by using our human spirit. In my daily lives, early in the morning is the best time to pray and read the Bible, and listen to the Spirit speaking through the Bible, through praying and pondering the word of God, the Spirit reminds me the verses in the Bible and guide me to read certain portions of the Bible.
All these lay a foundation how I live through today.
So I usually needs minimum 2 hours to do so, on weekends even longer hours. Make sense to you?
